One of the most-viewed events of the year is consistently the Academy Awards. This year, the Oscars are being hosted by the lovely Ellen Degeneres and words cannot describe how excited I am for her comedic genius. While I do enjoy just sitting around and watching with my dog, here are a few things you could do to host your very own Oscar party… and not in a cliché boring way.

Cast Your Ballots

I guess you could cast ballots for the actual awards given out for the night, but something more fun would be giving awards to celebs like “most likely to give an awkwardly long acceptance speech” or “most likely to have an almost nip-slip.” This adds another element to the serious Oscar party you and your friends could be having.

Make Dresses

That’s right. I said it. If you haven’t seen these adorable photos from Fashion By Mayhem this toddler rocks paper-style dresses that were made famous by the Golden Globes red carpet. And do we all remember this adorable shot of Colton Hayes dressed as JLaw? Your friends can do it too. Not only will it make for hilarious Snapchats but memories of your friends embarrassing themselves that will last a lifetime.

Join a Livestream

A bunch of celebs who aren’t making it to the Oscars this year are having their own livestreams where they and their fans can talk about what’s going on onscreen. My favorite celeb (well, YouTube celeb) is Miranda Sings who will be having a hilariously awkward livestream throughout. Maybe this would be a good choice if you know you’ll be watching with your dog.

Cook Themed Foods

Use your clever little mind to create your own Oscar-themed snacks. How about Blue Jasmine(berry) muffins? Or Nebraska Toast (the distant cousin to Texas Toast)? Or if you aren’t feeling especially inspired put some ice cubes in your drink of choice and say you’re celebrating “Frozen.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Bet Pool

Before the party even starts have everyone in the room make bets on whether or not Leo will win the elusive Oscar.

Create and share elaborate backstories for Foreign Film directors

When these folks come to accept their awards I always feel bad that I don’t know who they are and that they’re rushed off the stage so quickly. Why not honor them by coming up with engaging backstories for each.

Live Tweet the Entire Thing

Because everyone else will be, why not get your two cents out there while everyone’s posting? Don’t be alarmed if non-Oscar viewers unfollow you. It’s worth it to get those excited tweets about JLaw’s acceptance speech out into the Twitter-verse.

Let me know how your Oscar parties go and don’t worry, I would never unfollow you.

Watch the Oscars tonight at 8:30/ 7:30 CT on ABC (and a bunch of red carpet coverage hours and hours before then).
