The claddagh is an Irish symbol largely found in Irish jewellery, especially rings; representing love, loyalty and friendship.

Although originally produced in the 17th Century, the claddagh ring, is steeped in history. The ever-popular claddagh design depicts two hands clutching a heart, complete with a crown. This much -loved design eptiomizes the expression of lasting love and eternal friendsip.

What is Claddagh? An emblem of irish identity! The claddagh ring belongs to a group of European finger rings called fede rings.

The name ‘fede’ derives from the Italian phrase hands joined in faith or hands joined in loyalty. With the rings dating back from Roman times, these rings were once used as engagement and wedding rings

Everlasting Love. The claddagh emblem has a romantic story attached. Legend tells us about a fishing boat that was captured by pirates in the ancient fishing village of Claddagh just outside Galway, on the west coast of Ireland.

One crew member who was married, was taken as a slave, leaving his wife behind. He never forgot her and made a ring of gold in hope of giving it to her one day. After many years the man earned his freedom and returned to Claddagh, where his wife was also waiting for him.

He gave her the ring and they married never to be seperated.

How to wear Claddagh. There are many ways to wear your Claddagh ring.

Wear on the right hand with the crown turned inwards, and this means your heart is yet to be occupied.

If you wear with the crown turned outwards, it shows that you are committed to someone special.

But, if you wear a Claddagh ring on your left hand turned outwards, it shows that your love and friendship with someone special will reign forever, never to be seperated!

Will you be treating yourself to a special Claddagh ring?
