STEP 5 Once your marker drawing is complete, go through your magazines. Tear out the colors you need for your portrait. For this example, I tore out blues for the background along with oranges, yellows, dark browns, grays, and black for the dog. I also collected pinks for the tongue and greens for the collar!
Look at that—the project even provides practice with color identification and categorizing! While the book mentions magazines, fabric, and scrapbooking papers, another option is tissue paper. Eric Carle, the genius illustrator behind such children’s classics as The Very Hungry Caterpillar and countless more, uses tissue paper to create his well-recognized illustrations.
