Rancid’s Tim Armstrong makes directorial debut on Green Day’s ‘Bang Bang’

Green Day released their official music video for their breakout single “Bang Bang” which Rolling Stone calls a “raucous, action-packed video” just mere hours ago on their Facebook page. Directed by Tim Armstrong of punk band Rancid, the track serves as the lead single for the band’s twelfth studio album Revolution Radio due out October 7. Additionally, it’s the bands first single since their Christmas special “Xmas Time of the year” in 2015.

The music video for “Bang Bang” follows the pop punk trio as they play to a crowded house party reminiscent of the late 90’s we all know and love. The visual’s second story follows three female bank robbers dressed in grey jumpsuits while wearing masks resembling Green Day’s likelihood. With guns in hand, the other trio stick up the joint before running to their getaway car with bags of cash in hand. The three robbers then celebrate by joining in on the party and rocking out to the band.

The band is set to tour in the wake of Billy Joel Armstrong’s onstage meltdown in 2012

“We’re ready to rock,” drummer Tré Cool says in an interview with EW. “All those health issues are behind us. We’re going into this record cycle with a lot of gratitude, a lot of humility. We just really do enjoy the s*** out of being in a rock & roll band with our best friends.”

Revolution Radio will be the first full-length studio album from Green Day after their three-album-release ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tre! within just three months of one another. In promoting their latest record, the band is set for a North American tour that begins on September 20 in St. Louis until October 20 in Berkeley, California. They then plan to follow up with a European leg of the tour with dates slated for January and February next year.

Green Day released “Bang Bang” on August 11 through Reprise records. Check out the music video directed by Tim Armstrong above and be sure to look out for Revolution Radio out October 7 of this year.
