Just like fashion, you can accessorize any cake with a stylish pattern.  Cake patterns help set the mood for parties, highlight themes, add accents to layers, or even reflect your own personality.  Here at Pink Cake Box, we love adding patterns to cakes, or replicating a special pattern for our customers.  Take a look at some of our top cake pattern choices from weddings, birthdays, showers and more!

Unique Patterns

Chevron

One of the most popular cake pattern choices is chevron.  Chevron is reminiscent of an art deco style and was a popular look in the 1920’s (think “Great Gatsby!”).  But nowadays, chevron can jazz up any event with its repetitive v’s, in the exact color you desire.  This baby shower cupcake topper even features cupcakes with chevron liners and sculpted critters to match!

Here are more examples of how chevron patterns enhance our cupcake towers.  Check out Lucas’ 1st Birthday ‘Mustache Bash,’ with its light blue chevron topper and happy, sculpted elephant.  We even made matching cake pops as part of this collection!

Chevron cupcake toppers are cute and fun!

And here’s a 3rd birthday cupcake topper with chevron and polka dots!  Not only is it a dessert to enjoy, it’s also a decorative focal point for parties.

And this cute little elephant sits atop a chevron tier for a 1st birthday party.  The colors of pale yellow and gray are accented by a pink number one and the guest of honor’s name.

What’s cuter than an elephant on a chevron cake?

Paige’s 1st birthday cake is a great example of how chevron can be both fun and unique.  Created in shades of green, pink, orange and white, this cake features chevron patterns on one tier, highlighted with festive gerber daisy sugar flowers and piped stems.  The design was chosen to coordinate with our client’s invitations.  To learn more about creating this chevron technique, check out Jessica Harris’ Craftsy class at Pink Cake Box University.

Damask

If you’re looking for a more elegant design for your cake, the damask pattern provides the illusion of woven flowers and vines, like an intricate tapestry.  Our red rose and black damask wedding cake is beautiful and eye-catching with its bold, unique colors.

This pink and white communion cake was inspired by another damask cake we made for a christening.  In soft shades of pink and white, this cake was highlighted with a fondant ribbon and beautiful cross on top.

Damask doesn’t have to be for weddings or formal events.  This fun birthday cake was created for a young gymnast, and features a damask tier in fuschia and white, accented with sugar flowers, golden medallions, and a golden gymnast to match!

This topsy turvy cake is definitely pretty in pink!  Created for a bridal shower, it was made to look like balancing gift boxes. The damask layer is surrounded by ruffles, crystals and sugar flowers.   Check out our video of the final creation

Quatrefoil

Quatrefoil is a cake pattern with rounded petals and leaflets.  It makes for bold and beautiful cakes in any color choice.  This 7 tiered wedding cake features quatrefoil patterns in navy blue and white, accented with sugar flowers and pale green vines.  Other layers were created in a soft, quilted pattern of white.

This gray and silver wedding cake has a variety of different patterns, with quatrefoil featured on the bottom layer. The varying patterns, textures, and color shades make this cake unique and elegant.

This cake features a variety of patterns, including quatrefoil.

Quatrefoil in detail!

Houndstooth

This baby shower cake marks the first time we used a raised houndstooth pattern as a design element.  Using fondant, we created a three-dimensional effect in beautiful shades of pink and white.  And of course, the filling had to be pink velvet to match!

A raised houndstooth pattern helps give this cake a life-like texture.

We created this houndstooth and safari print cake for a 30th birthday.  It differs from our baby shower cake in that the houndstooth pattern is hand-painted on the bows.

The contrast in colors and patterns on this cake make it a daring centerpiece for any party!

Lace

Lace provides a romantic, classic look to any cake, and not just for weddings!  This pink and mint green baby shower cake features traditional lace patterns and stripes, finished off with an elegant fondant bow.  The center tier was created with a light mint gelatin lace wrap.  Guests received custom boxed cupcake favors to match, too!

Even baby boys can be honored with lace!  This two tiered baby shower cake has patterns of both linen and lace.  At close inspection, you can see the attention to detail and texture.  Customers often tell us it looks real!

Linen and lace accent this adorable baby shower cake.

We even created yummy baby bear macarons to match this lace baby shower cake!  You can try our delicious macarons for yourself if you stop by our new retail location, Pink Cake Box Boutique.

Teddy bear macarons? Yes, please!

Sugar peonies and roses accent the gorgeous lace overlays on this three-tiered blush wedding cake.  The flavor was pink vanilla with cream cheese and chocolate ganache buttercream filling.  We worked with Jenni Orsini Events to create this cake pattern for our clients, and it really helped set the mood for a romantic wedding.

Unique Patterns

Perhaps you have a cake pattern in mind that’s all your own!  If so, patterns can be recreated on cakes to your liking. Take a look at this wedding cake that was designed to match our client’s china.  It was hand detailed in fondant and gold piping, and even featured a sugar bowl ‘handle’ on top!

China patterns can inspire cake design, too!

Many brides love the patterns on their gowns and hope to incorporate it somehow into their wedding reception. This country chic wedding cake was created for a photo shoot and featured fondant satin and lace that mimicked the dress.  This gorgeous cake was used for a spring photo shoot by Marie Labbancz.

Have you ever seen a honeycomb pattern on a cake?  That’s just what we created for this ‘Meant to Bee” 6 tier hexagon wedding cake!  Two of the tiers featured a golden honeycomb pattern with sugary, sweet bees.  Other tier patterns coincided with the couple’s wedding theme.  This included a woodgrain pattern along with yellow and navy fondant to match their invitations.

A honeycomb patterned cake is so sweet!

If you’re ready to take a walk on the wild side, then maybe you’ll want to combine animal patterns on your cake.  This 9th birthday cake not only featured cheetah and zebra patterns in shades of pink, it also had an interior to match!  So don’t forget that cake patterns can be duplicated inside your cake, too!

This zebra and cheetah patterned cake really makes a statement!

No matter which cake pattern you choose, it’s sure to be eye-catching, memorable and delicious!
