2015 Topic 18: Wearable Art
Hi everyone, Lynne Moncrieff (Adorn) joining you this evening with a post featuring a pendant for the wearable art theme. The focal of the pendant is a heart from the fabulous Prima Relics and Artifacts range which are blank resin embellishments. In this tutorial I will focus on how PaperArtsy products allowed me to alter the heart, turning it into the focal for a vintage style pendant. To present this as a gift idea I have also altered a simple papier mache box and created a mini cluster of stamped tags.
With a foam brush apply Fresco Finish Chalk, Nougat and Old Gold to the selected heart, blending the colours. Once dry, apply Crackle Glaze followed with Chalk, remembering to also work on the rear of the heart.

Stamping onto tissue paper with Staz-on Timber Brown select illuminating from ESN07 and the heart from the Christmas sentiment from ESN17 . Adhere to the heart with Golden Matt Gel Medium .
Once dry, randomly stamp the music score with Archival Potting Soil, heat setting before
...lightly applying Fresco Old Gold, with a cloth, highlighting the heart, especially the edges.

For the rear of the heart stamp the music score from ESN18 with Potting Soil.
The heart is now ready to be formed into a pendant. Gather supplies such as chain, pearls, jump rings, head and eye pins and fastener. I also worked with a vintage crystal chandelier drop and fragments of vintage lace.

Let's leave the pendant there for the meantime, we will catch-up with it again at the end of this post. If this was made as a gift you would probably want to present it in a pretty manner.
For the tags, apply London Night and Chalk to stamping card, creating a stippled effect followed by stamping wishes, with love (from EDY15 and beauty from ESN18. Attach the tags to jump rings and pearls, creating a dangle. This will be then be attached to the pendant.
Finally, we turn to the box. A simple papier mache box painted with London Night followed with an application of Crackle Glaze and Chalk. Old Gold was used to add highlights after stamping the music score from ESN18.
The box was simply embellished with some vintage lace, seam binding and cameo. With the tags attached to the pendant and the pendant nestled inside the box, this pendant is ready to be gifted to someone whose heart illuminates all those around them.
The final photograph focuses on the altered Relics and Artifacts resin heart.
Whether stamping, collage, paint effects, fabric, the Relics and Artifacts are a canvas for your creativity be your style contemporary, grungy, vintage, etc. If you do not own any of the Relics and Artifacts, you could substitute a clay, MDF, acrylic heart or look beyond hearts. Leandra had some fabulous wooden hearts at Ally Pally recently that would also work perfectly with this,
PaperArtsy products allow you to make your mark no matter the substrate you work with as the focal for your wearable art. I hope to explore this theme further with different PaperArtsy stamp designs as I am sure it will create dramatically varied results. Why not create a pendant to your favoured style whether to dress up a favourite outfit or to gift to a friend or loved one.

This is so gorgeous Lynne. My good friend Irene in New Zealand gave me a heart as a gift several years ago. It is resin, with stamped image trapped in the resin. I love it, and when I wear it or see it among my jewellery, I think of her all the time, so I can certainly vouch for the joy of receiving a heart as a gift like this! The artifacts range is fabulous fun, and we now have a lot more in stock too, they take the fresco paint beautifully! Thank you for such a thoughtful post.
