 2015 Topic 14: Flowers

Hi everyone Anneke here, joining you this evening with a post about flowers. There are flowers on almost each project I create: on my cards, my art journal pages, my books.... I love stamping flowers, doodling flowers, making 3D flowers....

This evening I want to walk you through the making of a canvas. There are lots of layers involved. Hope you'll enjoy it.

I started by collaging vintage book text, patterned paper, tissue paper, ledger paper and a playing card to a 8 x 8" (20 x 20 cm) box canvas. I used gel medium to adhere the different papers in place and I adhered the papers down the sides of the canvas to continue the pattern.

Next I dry brushed a coat of gesso on top.

I applied small amounts of lime, turquoise and light blue acrylic paint to the canvas with an old credit card.

I sprayed Distress Spray Stains 'Mermaid Lagoon' and 'Twisted Citron' to the top of the canvas, sprayed water on top and put the canvas upright to let the ink drip.

After drying I stamped arrows, grid and circles from the JOFY 36 set straight to the canvas. To achieve a crisp look I stamped the 'circles with text inside' on tissue paper first and glued that tissue paper to the canvas.

I created an arrangement of pods with the JOFY 007 stencil and light modeling paste.

After drying I colored the pods with Faber-Castell Gelatos. I rubbed some Gelatos on top and blended the colors with a water brush.

I stamped the beautiful large flower from the JOFY 36 stamp set with Archival Ink 'Jet Black' on a sheet of paper and colored the prints with a combination of pink, fluorescent orange, fluorescent magenta and white paint.

I attached the flowers to the canvas with foam tape.

I cut stems out of painted paper.

I added shadow to the pods and stems with a Faber-Castell PITT artist pen (May Green).

And of course I decorated the sides of the box canvas too.

I love how the blue/green background turned out and the fluorescent flowers create a nice contrast with that background.

PaperArtsy has an extensive collection of flower stamps. So gather a few of them and join in with the challenge. I would love to see what you come up with!

Have fun!

Thanks for watching!

Wow! just look at those blasts of colour! This is a stunning way to showcase Jo's flower, with excellent supporting layers. The canvas sides look great too with the stamping wrapping around. ~ Darcy
