Like anything, the job search market is always changing. Whether you prefer to search on sites such as Jobstoday or like to hand your CV into different businesses, you can’t deny that the market is changing. Here are five ways in which the hunt for a job will change in the future.

Increased opportunities

The jobs market can only get stronger and with more businesses starting up and many expanding, it’s a good time to be looking for a job. Laws and grants are making it easier for companies to hire new employees and the government is dedicated to creating more jobs post-recession so this is only going to continue.

The IT market is expanding very rapidly so if you’re looking for a career change then this might be a good industry to look into. This doesn’t mean that the job search will be easier in the future, it just means you’ll have more opportunities to apply for.

Increased reliance on technology

Whether it’s knowledge of the latest technology or simply using it to further your job search, technology is going to play a large part in most people’s careers.

You might search the web endlessly for a job or you might use the latest job app. Maybe you’ll have an edge over other interviewees because of your knowledge of the latest mobile app programming techniques, or perhaps you’ll know everything there is to know about car tech.

Because technology is so important, you should try to keep up-to-date with the latest advances in technology relating to your industry.

Tailored applications

As good as it is to hand your CV into all the different places you can find, you’d be better off sending a tailored application into the places you really want to work.

While we do this to a point, there’s the temptation to send a generic cover letter along with your CV whenever you apply for a job online. Just because it’s easy to apply for a job online doesn’t mean you should apply for everything.

Social media to play a bigger part

A few people are finding jobs through social media and this is only going to become more commonplace. If you can project a good image on social media then you’re going to be able to make a good impression on the businesses you engage with. You never know, this could lead to a job in the future so keep at it.

A step away from academia

While degrees and qualifications are always going to be important, employers are becoming increasingly relaxed when it comes to a glowing CV. Instead, they want to see what you can do and the internet is making that easier and easier.

Show off your skills in a video CV or show what you can do by linking to an online portfolio. Your experience and knowledge don’t have to come from a classroom environment as employers are now willing to look at other ways to gain these valuable skills.
