Earlier this month, the Style Gallery celebrated Valentine’s week with our Best-Dressed BFFs Contest. Our community shared outfit photos of themselves with their best pals, then we randomly picked a pair to win a $100 gift certificate each. We adored getting to see your fashionable friendships, and we’re super excited to introduce our winners. Everyone, meet Sarah and Meaghan, two musical gals with fantastic senses of style. We asked Sarah about the details of their dynamic duo — read on, and see what she had to share!

How did you two meet?
We met working together as music therapists where we both reside in Miami, FL. I moved here from New York and Meaghan moved here from Texas, but we became friends through both our careers and mutual love of folky tunes. We started an indie folk duo called The Bows and Ties two years ago, and we have become close friends through songwriting and performing live throughout South Florida.
Do you play instruments?
We have both been playing piano since childhood and guitar since college. Meaghan also plays accordion and harmonica. We taught ourselves banjo, ukulele, harmonica, washboard, and even the spoons within the last two to three years. What makes our duo really unique is how we both play such a variety of instruments, which allows us to make each song distinct in our recordings and live performances.
How would you describe your style?
Though we both have a retro quirky look, Meaghan is more “geek chic” with comic book/sci-fi-themed wear, suspenders, and bow ties, while I have a more playful look with bold patterns and bright colors, including Peter-Pan-collared dresses and lots of big matching hair bows.
How do you and Meaghan inspire each others’ style?
We both have really contrasting looks, but are always talking to each other about pieces we love, what to wear for shows, and new things on ModCloth we want.
