When sales force members ask me to tell them my favorite Mary Kay memory, I always respond — Seminar! When Mary Kay Ash stepped onstage during the opening, it was always an emotional moment.

Our Special Events Department would plan an elaborate entrance for her, and the independent sales force literally went wild. The energy and love that was evident in that room was powerful. No matter how many times I saw Mary Kay step onstage, tears would come to my eyes. But not for the same reason that the independent sales force would cry when they saw Mary Kay. They were part of the audience, appreciative and adoring of Mary Kay.

As I stood by the stage looking out at a sea of women, I thought of all the lives Mary Kay Ash had touched. These women cheered and became emotional because they were so thankful for what the Mary Kay opportunity had done for them.

Mothers are able to stay home and raise their children. Career women are able to escape corporate America for a positive, flexible environment. Bored women are able to find social fulfillment. And insecure women are able to find personal growth with encouragement to step out of their comfort zones.

This is what Mary Kay’s mission of enriching women’s lives is all about. I was reminded when the audience reacted to Mary Kay’s appearance at Seminar. It was such a magical moment! Although her personal appearances no longer exist, Mary Kay’s legacy and wisdom lives on and Seminar is still a magical place because this is where dreams continue to be born!
