Jaeger LeCoultre’s Reverso is one of the most iconic designs in watchmaking and is often considered the definitive dress watch. For those who haven’t read up on horological history, the Reverso was originally designed in 1931 as a sports watch, albeit for one of the classiest sports. During the early 1900s, British officers in India suffered from the risk of their watch dial getting smashed during games of polo. Their watch importer brought this up with his watch maker Jacques-David LeCoultre and Edmond Jaeger, who then created a watch with reversible face. Over the years, its minimalist art deco style grew in popularity as a dress watch and established itself as a standard across the globe, for both men and women. And while designed to protect the dial, its reversible feature was used for different purposes, such as to reveal extra functions, the movement within or an additional dial to allow for two styles. The Reverso has had countless versions over the years, but has always stayed true to its roots. The carbon dial features a chronograph with 30-minute subdial, hour subdial, day/night indicator and big date display. Flipping the case over reveals a 24 timezone disk, where they’ve replaced some of the city names with the names of world famous polo fields. It’s fitted with an unique articulated rubber strap.
