This is the fourth and final part of the collaboration between Lights Online and Inspired LED! (Previously, we looked at kitchen lighting ideas, living room lighting ideas and bathroom lighting ideas.) Now we’re going to spotlight some smart and eye-catching ideas for lighting the great outdoors using light fixtures you can find from Lights Online and Inspired LED.

The possibilities for outdoor lighting are nearly endless and depend mainly on what kind of outdoor spaces you need to illuminate. Do you spend a lot of time in an outdoor living area? Do you want to brighten up your landscape? Do you need to make steps or a deck easier to navigate at night? Do you need more light at your front door or the street? Do you want to do all of these things? Good news: there are outdoor lighting answers for all of these questions.

You probably already have the most common source of outdoor lighting: outdoor wall lights, such as lantern-style fixtures. There are usually one or two of these outdoor wall lights surrounding the front entrance way. Wall lights are available in an endless variety of designs and styles. Upgrading or installing new outdoor fixtures can help to enhance the exterior of your home!

If your home has a driveway or pool area, these are great places to add an outdoor post light. These lights are mounted to posts–hence the name–and help provide a general source of light to help your home stand out or make your pool even more inviting.

Outdoor ceiling lights, which are usually flush mount styles, are a great idea for lighting garages, carports and covered porches. They’re usually more weatherproof than their indoor flush mount counterparts, too!

Outdoor hanging lights are increasing in popularity as people look to their outdoor living areas as full-fledged living spaces. There are even outdoor pendant lights and chandeliers available! These are especially great for adding some stylish ambient light to covered areas like a porch.

Need to keep cool in the great outdoors? You can find outdoor ceiling fans, too, in a great variety of styles and sizes. Damp-rated ones can be installed in covered areas while wet-rated ones can be directly exposed to rain, like on a pergola or gazebo.

There are also many different kinds of landscape lighting fixtures, such as lights that help illuminate a path, accentuate unique features or light up your deck or steps.

Some varieties of LED flex tape are approved for outdoor use, and the slender profile of the tape means it can be used in all sorts of areas. Many landscape features such as benches, steps, patios, and handrails can be stylized with the simple addition of LED outdoor flex tape. There are many varieties of colors and brightness levels available–and even control devices that allow you to change colors at the touch of a button.

Here you can see a strip of warm white (2700K color temperature) LED tape light encircles the gazebo on the left, providing great ambient light with a cozy glow. Deck lights are mounted to the stairs in areas where the elevation changes. On the side of the house are two outdoor wall lights that shine up and down.

A line of outdoor LED flex tape light runs the length of this deck’s guardrails, brightening up the entire area with a footprint so slender that it looks like the light is actually an integrated part of the rails. Note the cooler white color temperature than the tape in the previous photo. If this is the kind of light you want, look for temperatures of 3000K or higher.

A simple yet novel idea: adding step lights down to a patio, especially since there is no handrail. It actually looks like these are strips of LED light that were added post-construction under the tops of the treads, though you can also find step lights that are meant to be installed while building the stairs.

I love the look of this landscape lighting, reminiscent of the little searchlights you’d see at a movie premiere! Strategically placing the rocks so they shield and direct the light creates this dramatic look. LED accent lights also provide illumination for a tree at the left, while the address number is brightly lit too, giving the home a warm, inviting feel.
