Southern Grown Concert Series: Marshall Tucker Band: December 1st, 2016

The Southern Grown Concert Series presents The Marshall Tucker Band in concert at Rainbow Island Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m.

In the early fall of 1973 The Marshall Tucker Band was still a young and hungry group out to prove themselves every time they hit the stage. The band’s recent release of their Live! From Englishtown album is a time capsule from that period. “We were a bunch of young guys who didn’t know any boundaries” says founding member and longtime lead singer Doug Gray.

Today the band records on its own RAMBLIN’ RECORDS Label (distributed by Sony / RED) and continues to release new and previously unreleased material. For their most recent release, the band dug into the vault and emerged with the original live recordings from its biggest show to date. The new Live! From Englishtown album was originally performed in 1977 and reportedly drew more than 150,000 fans. Still led today by founding member and lead singer Doug Gray, they represent a time and place in music that will never be duplicated.

Tickets can be purchased at www.siconcertseries.com.

Ritz Radio Theatre Presents It’s a Wonderful Life: December 9th to 18th, 2016

Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is bringing back the popular Ritz Radio Theatre production of It’s A Wonderful Life for the holiday season. Perfect for all ages, the performance will be presented December 9-18, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm.

The Ritz Radio Theatre productions are just like they would have been done in the 1940s as live radio broadcasts—in front of a live audience, with period costumes, sound effects and even commercials. “It’s a fun and interactive performance,” says Heather Heath, Executive Director, Golden Isles Arts and Humanities. “The audience is part of the broadcast as their reactions and applause are integral to the show. And getting to see the actors ‘become’ their characters and watch how the sounds are created is very entertaining.”

It’s a Wonderful Life is the beloved tale of a guardian angel named Clarence who helps a despairing businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed. Local radio personality Scott Ryfun takes on the role of George Bailey with some familiar and some new faces joining the cast this year. Scott Akins, Jeff Dempsey, Geoff Matthews, Emmeline Griffith, and Jacqueline Marchbanks join regulars Peggy Shanahan, Kelly Hunter, Lisa Jinkins, Christina Johns, Joan Scheetz, Bryan Thompson, Fred Griffith and Jim Jinkins (as Clarence Oddbody, Angel Second Class) in the lively and fun adaptation of the beloved film.

The Ritz Radio Theatre productions are sponsored in part by Ned Cash Jewelers and local radio station 1440 WGIG and presented by Golden Isles Arts & Humanities. Advance tickets for Golden Isles Arts & Humanities members are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors (age 65 and up). Advance tickets for nonmembers are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors. Day of show tickets for members are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors while the cost for nonmembers is $25 for adults and $20 for seniors. The cost for students (with ID) is always $5 each. To purchase advance tickets, visit www.goldenislesarts.org, or the Ritz Theatre box office, 1530 Newcastle St., Tuesdays-Fridays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, call (912) 262-6934.
