Right now the focus is on the transfer window and pre-season friendlies but the new Premier League season will kick off in just a month.

The 2016/17 campaign is set to be one of the best and most competitive yet with a slew of new managers and players making the division closer than ever before. Here is a look at what to expect.

New managers

There will be just as much focus on the sidelines as the pitch next season with Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte joining Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino, Claudio Ranieri, Slaven Bili and Ronald Koeman in the Premier League.

The trio of new boys are serial winners and will not settle for second best lightly meaning everyone needs to up their game.

New players

The transfer window is barely open but already the biggest clubs have been busy with an estimated £300m changing hands in the first week.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Nolito, Ilkay Gundogan, Michy Batshuayi, Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama are just some of the main players to move already.

It is predicted £1bn could be spent by the time the window closes and with Paul Pogba, Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku, John Stones, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Radja Nainggolan and Mario Gotze linked with moves the action is far from over.

New title challengers

Following on from Leicester’s surprise success last season it could prove problematic trying to predict how the title race will unfold, but United, City and Chelsea are unlikely to struggle as much with new men in the dugout and with Klopp settled at Liverpool and without the distraction of European football they will hope to improve too.

Leicester and Tottenham surprised everybody but will have their work cut out to do the same again, and Arsenal will hope that with one or two signings they could be placed to build on their second-place finish.

What else is new?

Friday night football begins on 19 August with Jose Mourinho’s first home game as Manchester United boss, against Southampton. There is also newly promoted Burnley, Middlesbrough and Hull – three sides that will fancy their chances of following the success of Leicester, Bournemouth and Watford in recent seasons, and there are also a host of new rules being introduced too, including kick-off can be taken by one player, players can be sent off before the game has begun and several other changes in order to make the game faster and governed by common sense.
