“These new silhouettes are innovation as you’ve never seen before, designed to unlock every athlete’s full potential,” says Rory Fraser, product and consumer insights manager, stood just before the cultural Westergasfrabriek hall in central Amsterdam on a summer’s Tuesday afternoon.

Colourful and vibrant lights transformed the venue prior to his speech with an atmosphere of lunar inspired excitement echoing throughout. This stellar unveiling was for the running Olympic shoes, more specifically the Lunar Epic Low, Free and Pegasus which have been a year in the making.

Taking an intimate crowd of no more than 50 people on a tour through the decorated history of Nike’s olympic running shoes stemming from 1980 with Steve Ovett’s triumphant spikes all the way to prototypes in 2012, Fraser shared the technology behind the new running shoes.

Flanked by the fastest German alive in the form of Julian Reus and Dutch matrix world indoor champion Nadine Broersen, Fraser explained the precision that went into the new range of footwear.

“Working with runners for months, we wanted to create a runner trainer which would take athletes that extra mile, those very few inches and assist their skills in the best way possible,” he said.

The Lunar Epic Low Flyknit is an evolution of a revolution. Continuing on from its launch in Berlin earlier this year, support-boosting technologies Flyknit and Flywire once again return to help maximise the athlete’s performance.

A precision-lasered Lunarlon midsole delivers a smooth ride with a pressure-mapped outsole providing targeted cushioning across the foot. Athletes will wear the several collections unveiled at Westergasfabriek during both the European Athletics Championships and Olympic Games.

A superb performance runner first and foremost, the Lunar Epic Low’s vibrant and rainbow-esque colours could see it switch into the fashion world in the nearby future. It’s reminiscent of the rainbow Nike Flyknit Racer launched earlier in the year.

This afternoon was abut unlocking everyone’s unlimited potential and, following the talk, Nike coaches led everyone on a 20 minute run through the scenic Amsterdam streets to exhibit the supreme performance the Lunar Epic Low provides.

Time and time again, the Swoosh have illustrated that consistent innovation is integral to reach new heights and break boundaries. It’s unrivalled and unmatched in the running sphere.
