We’re all about uniting people to celebrate exploring our planet. With hostels in more than 85 countries and guests from across the whole world, our global reach means we can really make a meaningful impact on our travel experiences when we work together.
The month ahead holds some important global events for us to share with you, targeted to help take care of our earth – and we’d love to get you involved by showing you what our hostels have planned for March and April and how you can help, whether you’re at home or you’re travelling.
Events coming up:
Earth Hour: Sunday 28th March – 8.30 pm
Join the Earth Hour movement on Sunday 28th March at 8.30pm – 9.30 pm your local time – wherever you are in the world, by taking part in a lights-off event to raise awareness to set a positive example and impact climate change resulting from electricity overuse.
About Earth Hour
Earth Hour began as a small-scale energy saving activity organised in Sydney back in 2007, and has expanded into a worldwide environmental event which last year engaged more than 162 countries and territories. Through the symbolic act of switching the lights off, we are visibly inspired, united and instigating change behind a common purpose.
This year, Earth Hour will continue to mobilise hundreds of millions of people to make a difference for the planet, and HI are getting stuck in and switching off too.

What you can do
Whether you’re at home or staying at a hostel, you can use your power to save energy: just turning your lights off and using candles for an hour will contribute to the impact in reducing our global carbon footprint, and form an important part of this display of solidarity to protect the planet.
Beyond the hour
The idea is not to just to switch the lights off for an hour, but to continue to do our part to ensure a stable future for the earth through small steps, smart thinking and inspiring change together.
“Man-made climate change is one the biggest threats the world faces today.”
Don’t take our word for it – Barack Obama, David Cameron, Pope Francis, WWF, Leonardo Di Caprio and Emma Thompson all say the same thing.
