Beach and tropical décor

It may seem cliché but it still looks good. You don’t have to go all out and get super kitschy with indoor sandboxes and beach balls, but a little hint of the beach or the tropics in your home during the summer can be a great touch. Simple touches like a small indoor palm plant in the dining room, shells in the bowl on the coffee table, or a couple cute fish-shaped pillows can go a long way.

Light curtains

Lightening the color of your curtains is a great way to spruce up your home for the summer months. Light yellow, teal, robin’s egg, and similar colors are great choices. It is probably a good idea to get a two or more colors of curtains for your summer months, as one color may clash with one of your room. You can also use curtains that are more translucent or made of lighter material to allow more light into your home when they are closed. Diffused light is easy on the eyes and makes people comfortable.

Outdoor lighting

One of the best parts of the summer is the warm nights. Installing some simple outdoor lighting will let you and your family enjoy this magical time. You can install either exterior lighting on your home itself, but there are also a number of portable and semi-portable lighting products for the outdoors that you can use with little hassle. You can get outdoor lights with solar panels built into them, or there are plenty of other options that use conventional cords or batteries but are also waterproof.

A lot of light, a little dark

As a general scheme, a small amount of dark coloring can bring out brighter colors that are more dominant in a room. Dark trim or curtains with in a brightly painted room will really help sunlight effect the space. Simply hanging your paintings, prints and posters with wide and dark matting can accomplish this effect. If you want to get daring, use some dark pillows on a bright couch to make it pop. Try to keep this principle in mind when you are applying the above suggestions too, as many of these concepts work together to really bring summer into your home.
