According to a well-known saying the Czechs have golden hands, which implies that the two words Czech Design were meant to belong together. The Czechs have a reputation of a nation, which is able to produce anything with bare hands and the end product would not lack quality. Czech creativity manifested itself many times in the past, including the case of the Cubist movement, when the Czechoslovak art and architecture came to the forefront.

Although Cubism has its roots in Paris, it was Prague, where a lot of cubist buildings survive till the present day as magnificent symbols of the avant-garde of the past in this country. Prague has the honour to show off one of the few Cubist interiors that have survived to the present day and which can be found in the famous Grand Café Orient designed by architect Josef Gočár.

The Czechs were also successful at the World Expo in Brussels in 1958, where modern and sleek Czech design attracted international audience. During the communist era, Czech design, unfortunately, experienced severe depression, but after the fall of the Iron Curtain it celebrated a great rebirth. Nowadays, it’s absolutely impossible to walk around Prague or skim through the international design magazine without having noticed that Czech design has become a hot topic once again.

Elegant and sometimes literally capricious architectural designs, furniture, glass, home decor and much more foreshadow the Czech design will continue to flourish. We would like to introduce one of the best Czech designers and their unique art forms.
