The following announcement was written by the folks at the UKBMD & Local BMD Project:

Background:

———–
Just under 15 years ago the first of a growing series of websites was opened – the Cheshire BMD. Over time other areas of the country joined what has become known as the “Local BMD Project” and began placing their local register office birth, marriage and death indexes online. Links to all of these local BMD websites can be found under the UKBMD website on its Local BMD page.

New Features:

————-

When online ordering of certificates was first offered by some areas, the Local BMD software was enhanced to allow users to remember index entries of interest on a Summary page. I.e. when the user sees an entry in the search results on one of the local BMD websites, they click on the reference number in the search results table and it temporarily stores their selection of results on the Summary page. When the user had finished searching, the Summary page then steers them through online ordering, where available, or to a printable application form for ordering through the post.

The original Summary page had some limited sorting options and closing the browser would cause the entries to be forgotten.

The Summary page has been enhanced with the intention of making it more useful:

New sort ordering choices.

Save the entries to CSV file.

The entries are now remembered even after the browser is closed.

Adjacent entries on the register can been displayed.

Full details about all of the changes can be found online on the help page which has been set up to accompany this update: http://www.ukbmdcertificateordering.co.uk/helptext.html.

The Future:

———–

We hope to be able to announce later this year that two further counties will have their BMD indexes online using the Local BMD system.
