NEHGS, the Largest Genealogical Society in America, Brings its Expertise and Scholarship to Western Massachusetts for Family History Day
June 3, 2014 — Boston, Massachusetts — The entire family at AmericanAncestors.org and New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) is headed to Amherst, Massachusetts on Saturday, August 2, to offer a day of family history discovery and learning.
From their headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, the NEHGS staff of expert genealogists, historians, writers and researchers will bring their knowledge and expertise to the UMass Amherst Campus Center in western Massachusetts — where they invite the public to spend a rewarding day learning about family history.
At NEHGS Family History Day participants can learn from some of the leading professionals in the genealogy field. During this exclusive one- day seminar, NEHGS experts will demonstrate some of the best practices in genealogy and show patrons how to get the most from their prize-winning website, AmericanAncestors.org. NEHGS staff will help all to discover new and essential resources, offer chats with their professional genealogists, present many discounted titles from the NEHGS bookstore for purchase, and share the latest happenings at NEHGS. A limited number of one-on-one consultations with NEHGS experts will be available throughout the day. Throughout Family History Day, participants can connect with other family historians from all over Massachusetts and the New England and mid-Atlantic region.
The 2014 NEHGS Family History Day is sponsored by MyHeritage, the world’s largest family history online network for building and sharing your family tree. MyHeritage will be with NEHGS in Amherst all day — where participants will have an opportunity to meet them, view exhibits, and explore how MyHeritage can help with building a family tree. “Whether new to genealogy or researching for years, we encourage the public to take this opportunity to discover their family story with the family history experts,” stated Leah Walczak, NEHGS Director of Education and Programs and coordinator of the event for the Society.
“We’re looking forward to the chance to connect with our members in Western Massachusetts and the surrounding areas, and to share all that NEHGS has to offer with new audiences,” Walczak continued. “As genealogy grows in popularity and the number of online resources increases, we find that researchers are needing more help navigating through all of the information that’s available. NEHGS has a tradition of almost 170 years of scholarship and expertise, and we are sharing our resources and ser-vices in new and exciting ways. Family History Day is a great chance to come together with other family historians, highlight what we’re doing at NEHGS, and learn from each other.”

Registration for Family History Day is open! Conference registration is $40 per person for those who register by July 18, 2014. After July 18, 2014, the registration fee is $80 per person. One-on-one consultations with NEHGS genealogists are offered at $30 per person (25 minutes), and a separate registration is required. A limited number of consultations will be offered during breaks, at lunch, and after the last session ends. These sessions are expected to sell out quickly.
