The American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference and Exhibition

The ALA will hold its annual conference and exhibition in Orlando, Florida, from June 23-28, 2016. Those interested in participating may now pre-register online. The conference will feature attendees from all over the world who will have access to the latest on futures thinking, digital content, e-books, innovation, library transformation, community engagement, books and authors, leadership, advocacy, policy updates, and more. Attendees will also be able to enjoy networking and social events.

The American Library Association (ALA) 2016 ALA Leadership Institute

The ALA is now accepting applications for attendance at its 2016 “Leading to the Future” Leadership Institute, which will be held from August 8-11, 2016, at Eaglewood Resort in Itasca, Illinois. Applications to attend will be accepted through April 15, 2016. This four-day immersive event will provide leadership development for up to 40 mid-career librarians.

Allstate Foundation Greater Good Nonprofit Leaders Program

The Allstate Foundation will bring together emerging nonprofit leaders from across the county to engage in a unique leadership development program designed to transforming their organizations, their communities, and the nonprofit sector as a whole. Events will take place in four academic sessions throughout late 2016 and early to mid-2017. Applications to participate must be submitted by March 31, 2016.

2016 Saving Endangered Species Youth Art Contest

The Endangered Species Coalition has announced its 2016 Saving Endangered Species Youth Art Contest. The contest is open to K-12 grade students, including those who are homeschooled or belong to a youth/art program. To be eligible, students must submit artwork that depicts a land- or ocean-dwelling species that either lives in or migrates through the United States and its waters, or a plant/flower that is found in the United States that has been placed on the threatened or endangered species list. Submissions must be received by March 1, 2016, and the grand-prize winner will receive a round-trip flight to Washington, D.C., and accommodations for him/herself and one guardian to attend a rewards ceremony in May 2016.

College Board Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts

The College Board has announced its 2016 Excellence and Innovation in the Arts award, which recognizes and celebrates the achievement of arts initiatives that serve students in grades 6-12 and that promote student learning and creativity in exemplary and innovative ways. Awards will be provided in the category of arts integration, equity through arts, and civic engagement/professional partnerships. In each category, the winning school will receive a $5,000 award, and one among the three winners will receive an additional $2,500. Submissions must be received by April 18, 2016.

Buckminster Fuller Institute (BFI) 2016 Fuller Challenge

BFI is inviting designers, architects, planners, entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, activists, and students worldwide to submit original solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing problems. The funding agency will provide a $100,000 prize to support the development and implementation of the project. All submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m. ET on March 1, 2016.

Center for Applied Transect Studies 2016 TCC Groves Award

The Center for Applied Transect Studies is accepting nominations for outstanding leadership and vision in the promotion of Transect-based planning. All public officials and groups, elected or staff, except for sitting juries, are eligible to receive the award. The winner will receive the award at the annual gathering of the Congress for the New Urbanism, scheduled for June 8-11 in Detroit, Michigan. All submissions must be received by March 1, 2016.

The American Library Association (ALA) 2016 Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award

The ALA is accepting applications for the 2016 Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award for Exemplary Humanities Programming, which recognizes, promotes, and supports excellence in humanities programming in elementary and middle school libraries that serve children in grades K-8. The focus of this program is to share the winning school’s program as a model for inspiration and adaptation by other library media programs. Applications must be submitted by May 6, 2016.

Tony Awards Excellence in Theater Education Awards

The Tony Awards and Carnegie Mellon University are seeking teachers who are creating the next generation of theater artists by discovering talented students, nurturing them, inspiring them, and setting them off on a lifelong journey as theater supporters and professionals. The general public may nominate any theater education teacher from an accredited K-12 institution, and all nominations must be submitted by February 29, 2016.

Cal Wellness Sabbatical Program Awards

Cal Wellness will provide up to eight awards of $40,000 to nonprofit health organizations in California in order to provide their executive directors with well-deserved sabbaticals. The purpose of this program is to keep burnout, stress, and fatigue from undermining the effectiveness of leaders of nonprofit health organizations. Applications must be submitted by March 14, 2016.

The Oregon Cultural Trust Holding Conversations with Funders

The Oregon Cultural Trust’s manager will join colleagues from the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Heritage, Oregon Humanities, and the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office to launch a 12-stop state tour around Oregon to encourage cultural nonprofit organizations to apply for close to $5 million in collective grant funds. Events will be held from February 9, 2016, through March 3, 2016.

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources Program for Certified Local Governments

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources Office of History and Archaeology (OHA) is announcing a training opportunity for certified local government (CLG) historic preservation staff and board members. Training will be provided through the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions Conference, held in Mobile, Alabama, during July 27-31, 2016. Applications for 60/40 matching grants to participate in their training must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on February 29, 2016.
