The Eason Spelling Bee 2017 kicked off on February 14th and we are so excited to be travelling across the country again in search of the 2017 Eason Spelling Bee champion. It’s time to find out! You can check back regularly here on Eason Edition where you can keep up with all of the competitions as they happen.

Laois and Wicklow

The Spelling Bee team visited Laois and Wicklow on the 14th & 15th February to kick off the first week of the Eason Spelling Bee 2017.  For an update on each event please read below.

Laois Spelling Bee

We headed to County Laois for the first Spelling Bee of the competition. It was held in The Heath National School, Raheenahoran, Portlaoise where we were warmly welcomed 11 spellers who competed in a fantastic first event. The level of spelling was very high and was a great sign for the first competition of the year.

Paddy Bergin, from Scoil Mhuire, Abbeyleix, rose to the challenge and was crowned the County Laois Spelling Bee champion. Paddy will now go on to represent Laois in the Leinster final.

Wicklow Spelling Bee

Next up was Wicklow. We headed to Carysfort National School, Knockenrahan, Arklow, where 23 brilliant spellers competed for the Wicklow County crown. There was no stopping these competitors as they gave it their all and gave the audience plenty to cheer about.

Our winner was Brian O’Hara from St. Patrick’s National School, Avoca who grabbed the title of the Wicklow County Final champion. Brian will now go on to represent Wicklow in the Leinster final.
