All the talk about sales training, product training, compliance training, HSE training etc. for employees which directly impacts organizations has been the common concern of the training industry.

Times are changing the service industry has grown many folds with the boost from mobile apps that are developed to make life easy and provide services which were difficult to get and hard to negotiate & bargain. Temporary Service or work is a “Gig” and the availibilty of those services which is generating billions of dollars is called the “Gig Economy”.

Google search comes out as “A gig economy is an environment in which temporary positions are common and organizations contract with independent workers for short-term engagements. The shift toward a gig economy has started. A study by Intuit predicted that by 2020, 40 percent of American workers would be independent contractors.

One such gig that stands out is UBER, the most popular global taxi service. Klout ranked the San Francisco-based company as the 48th-most powerful company in America in 2014. By late-2015, Uber was estimated to be worth $62.5 billion. (Source: Wikipedia)

Uber has a few hundred employees but more than a million global driver partners/contract drivers who have to be trained on policies and compliances. Moreover, these driver partners spread across the globe who speak different languages have to be trained in a short time span for their partnership induction policies.

At times, the existing driver partners have to be re-trained on policies and procedural changes in their respective countries as the policies implemented by the regulators are constantly changing. Uber has been facing such regulation changes for which it has to train its contractors at a global level and tracking the training of more than a million driver partners is possible smoothly only with an e-learning training with multilingual translations and a very sturdy LMS to record all the trainings and evaluations of more than a million contractors.

The other key players of the Gig Economy are Fiverr, Lyft, Ola Cabs, Juno, Haxi and Didi Kuaidi, all offer temporary works and services and the number of people subscribing to their services is showing a steady and constant increase which requires trainings for its contractors/associates globally with translations in multiple languages.

In various countries across the globe, regulators and courts have ruled that the driver partners are deemed as employees which leads to compliance trainings and e-learning is the perfect solution for training in multiple languages and record keeping of such a large number of employees on an LMS requires a vendor who specializes in customized e-learning solutions with multiple language translations and LMS support.

Whenever you use a gig/service like Uber, Airbnb, Etsy, Fiverr, Lyft, Ola Cabs, Juno, Haxi or Didi Kuaidi, hope you will think about the type of e-learning they got.

Do share your thoughts.
