Subaru has announced that the ultra-high-performance STI variant of its latest WRX sedan will make its big debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show this month. The automaker revealed no other details, giving not so much as a hint of a hint about the car’s powertrain or chassis upgrades relative to the WRX, but you can bet it’ll pack more power and a more hard-core chassis setup.

Road Test: 2013 Subaru BRZ Limited vs. Route Napoléon

Instrumented Test: 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek 2.0i

First Drive: 2015 Subaru WRX Sedan

Our guess is that the STI gets the more-powerful version of the same 2.0-liter turbo four that powers the WRX, where it makes 268 horsepower. This pumped-up FA is installed in 296-hp form in a special Legacy model in Japan, and it also appeared in Subaru’s Levorg concept. We’ll bring you more details as they become available; based on how good the 2015 WRX is to drive, we’re really looking forward to the STI.
