Graduate Advantage internship opportunities are available to students who are studying at universities in the West Midlands, or who are living (or returning to live) in the West Midlands. Candidates need to have a West Midlands postcode.

All opportunities are with SMEs in the West Midlands region and all internships are paid. The service is mainly funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

For undergraduate students after graduation, there are short summer internships and also longer term internships of up to a year in length, the ‘Graduate Internship’ option. Someone who has completed their post-graduate course, and has a residential address in the West Midlands, is able to apply for roles in the same way as a first-degree holder. The opportunities can be part-time or full time and are in a range of sectors including: marketing, IT, management and finance.

For postgraduate students there is the ‘Post graduate Internship’ option, paid part-time work experience or project roles alongside your studies. This option provides a great opportunity to gain commercial experience. It is not available to students if the work experience constitutes a requirement of their course of study.

The Graduate Advantage team will assess each individual applicant’s position in relation to where they are in their education and whether the Graduate Internship (post-graduation) will be more relevant or the Post Graduate internship (during studies).

The service can be used for approximately 3 years after graduation although this can be longer, for example for a career-changer.
