Bajrangi Bhaijaan has been the film this year that is registering some unheard-of numbers at the box office. With a collection of 400 crore rupees and counting, the film has set a precedent for other upcoming releases. While often we tend to notice a void after such big hits, the year is far from over and there are some big films lined up for release that could set the cash registers ringing. However, it is 2016 that looks like the year that will play a significant role in creating box office history for Bollywood. Some ventures will see big production houses and our favourite B-towners collaborating and more often that not, such partnerships look sure to win. You might agree when you look at what the next year has in store for us.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
This Dharma movie is a romantic drama that will be shot in New York, Paris and Delhi and stars the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. And if that is not good enough, what is? Well, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil will have Karan Johar in the director’s chair once again. So there!
Airlift
Slated for an early-2016 release, Airlift will star Akshay Kumar and the lovely Nimrat Kaur. The movie is set against the Gulf War in Kuwait when over 111,000 Indians were evacuated from the region. With a seemingly strong plot and cast, this movie will surely be a gripping thriller to watch out for.
Dangal
After Mary Kom and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag this is another biographical sports drama. Produced by Disney Studio India, Dangal is the story of the Phogat sisters who represent India in wrestling. Aamir Khan plays the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, the father who encourages his daughters to fight odds and excel in sports.
Fan
If you haven’t heard of this upcoming film, directed by Maneesh Sharma, then you definitely need to get with the program. One can never have enough of Shah Rukh Khan and hence, Fan has two of him. SRK plays a double role ; one as as himself and the other, his ultimate fan. This little information has us interested for sure. The movie also stars Ileana D’cruz.
Fitoor
Who doesn’t love a little dash of classic English literature? Fitoor is based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations. Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, the movie stars Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapur, Aditi Rao Hydari and the timeless beauty, Rekha.
Jagga Jasoos
The charming off-screen couple, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif team up yet again to jump on what seems like another fun joyride onscreen. The movie also stars Govinda and is being directed by Anurag Basu. We hope it is as entertaining as the Ranbir-Anurag’s last venture, Barfi.
Mohenjo Daro
Did you miss Ashutosh Gowariker? Well, he is back with another epic-adventure love story – Mohenjo Daro starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde. The film will take us back in time to the ancient civilization as we experience a love saga set in the culture of that lost era.
Raees
Raees has had people talking ever since the first teaser of the film was released last month. Shah Rukh sports a look never seen before in this movie produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies Entertainment. Raees also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and newbie Mahira Khan. It is slated for a 2016-Eid release clashing with Salman’s next. This one is going to be a must-watch.
Shhuddhi
The Karan Johar movie that has been in the news for a while now for its repeated change in the lead pair casting will finally feature the hit jodi Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. The rest of the cast includes seasoned actors like Pankaj Kapur, Girish Karnad and Ashutosh Rana. Expectations are running high of this much-talked about movie.
Shivaay
Shivaay is Ajay Devgn‘s directorial debut and if that isn’t reason enough, we will also see the legendary Dilip Kumar‘s grand-niece, Sayesha Saigal onscreen for the first time. The motion poster of the movie was out in May 2015 and the film looks good for a Diwali release next year.
Sultan
Salman Khan‘s mandatory Eid release will be Sultan in 2016. While the teaser doesn’t give away much, we know the movie is about a 40-year-old wrestler from Haryana. Considering the winners Sallu has delivered almost every Eid, we can’t help but wonder if Sultan will follow suit.
11 huge releases next year; 2016 can’t arrive any sooner. Which ones are you waiting for the most?
