Name / Occupation: Amanda Kingloff / Professional Crafter (yes we do exist), Stylist, and Author
Currently working on: I just published my first craft book—Project Kid: 100 Ingenious Crafts for Family Fun. I am visiting bookstores all over the tristate area (and the south, where I’m from) signing books and crafting with kids. Most of my fans are under 4-feet tall.
What’s in or on your vanity?:
Moisturizers: Eucerin Daily Protection and Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Night Creme. Why these? Because Allure.com told me to.
Make-up remover: I don’t wear a ton of make-up often, but when I do, it’s usually for an event, a wedding, or a photo-shoot and nothing feels better than stripping it off. I use Benefit Remove It, and I won’t tell a lie, the pretty packaging made me buy it.
Facial scrub: When I worked at Parents magazine, one of the biggest perks was the beauty sales…anything you could ever want for a dollar. Literally. The beauty editor is a good friend to have at any publication, and when I was in the market for a new face-wash regimen, Tracy talked me into the Simple line. And I’ve been using the Soothing Facial Scrub ever since. (Now I pay more than $1. Bah.)
Hair care, wet: I have curly hair and I. Have. Tried. It. All. I just got turned onto Evo products—organic and if nothing else, the copy on the bottle will convince you. I mix Liquid Rollers and Gangsta Grip on my wet hair.
Hair care, dry: I spray DevaCurl’s Set it Free on my dry hair, and then curl it with a large-barrel curling iron. I know, curling curly hair sounds ludicrous, but it’s kinda magic.
Bobby pins: My husband was sick and tired of finding bobby pins all over the house, so he bought me a hot-pink Magnetic Hedgehog (meant to hold paperclips) to store my pins. It sits in the wall-mounted soap dish over our sink.
Make-up: I wear 2 items daily: Guerlain Cils D’enfer Maxi Lash Mascara (the best I’ve ever used) and Clinique’s Airbrush Concealer. This combo makes me look awake—which is really all I can ask for.
Lip gloss: I’ve been wearing the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Tints for years. They aren’t too sticky and they have a minty scent, so when I exhale, it’s like I’ve just eaten an Altoid. My favorite color is Magenta Mint.
Kids’ toothpaste: My kids have toothbrushes all over the house—dental care never happens in the same place every day. So I have a bottle of Branam Xylitol Toothpaste for Kids (Yum Yum Bubblegum) in our bathroom. I used it once in a sleepy stupor. It was pretty fantastic.
Which product(s) you can’t live without? My BaBylissPro Porcelain Ceramic 1 1/4″ Spring Curling Iron. The day after I wash my hair, I do everything in my power to fight nature, as many curly girls do, with tools to give me soft waves instead of tight ringlets. So I go lock by lock and curl over the curl. A trick I learned when I was maid of honor at my best friend’s wedding back in 2005.
Favorite place to shop for your goods? One-stop shops like Sephora and Soap.com because I seriously don’t have time for anything else.
Biggest beauty secret? All of the above. I’ve got nothin’ else!
