2015-01-12

I was only able to catch a portion of the live telecast of the 2015 Golden Globes earlier and it wasn’t the red carpet part which is what mattered where the blog was concerned.  I didn’t plan in advance to do a feature but when I saw certain faces I couldn’t help but decide to share with you who ranked as my top 5 in beauty (hair and makeup or just makeup).  We begin with number one who tops the list, simply because she’s the first face I saw during the ongoing program which convinced me to do this post.  In the past she was also featured as my favorite made-up face during the Academy Awards.  Photo sources will be placed at the end, but many of those official sites actually retrieve the same stuff from Getty images or other sites.  The ones whose outfits I also liked will have full-length photos.

1) JESSICA CHASTAIN

Actor Jessica Chastain is gorgeous with or without makeup.  A lot of us have seen this disarmingly beautiful and talented redhead with the barely there look in movies like Tree of Life, Zero Dark Thirty, and more recently Interstellar.  I like how her hair and makeup looks are often so well balanced.  The base looks like skin and the eyes are intense but softly lined and her blush picks up on camera.  Plus that flowing red hair is unrivaled.  I wasn’t too keen on her dress but it was pretty still…because of her.  UK makeup artist Mary Greenwell (THE one Lisa Eldridge and Charlotte Tilbury apprenticed for) has done her makeup in the past, I’m not sure if she did Jessica’s makeup this time.  Easy on the eyes Jessica is, Yoda would say.  Click to see the rest.

2) ROSAMUND PIKE

You might mainly remember British lady Rosamund Pike as Jane, the oldest sister in 2005’s Pride & Prejudice along Keira Knightley’s Lizzie or as Karl Urban’s sister in Doom.  P&P 2005 was 10 years ago if you haven’t realized (cracks back).  She’s yet another one who looks gorgeous with the bare minimum in terms of cosmetics, but this time I think the modern haircut together with the makeup gave her an additional gold star.  Those additional lashes certainly help in a most flattering way.  On her lips, I read somewhere, is a Chanel Rouge Coco shine (the shade wasn’t mentioned).

3) DAKOTA JOHNSON

50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson shone in silver at the Golden Globes and had the makeup that I would most likely wear on myself.  It’s quite Kristen Stewart-esque, or Twilight-ey without being too smoky.  I’m making adjectives like LEGO…lol.  That plummy mauve lip shade she has on reminds me of Make Up For Ever Mat5 or Bobbi Brown “Berry” or Bobbi Brown’s soft matte lipstick in “Nude” (which isn’t so nude) applied with restraint and a plum lipliner.

Her beach waves are pretty and they look soft to touch, but a bit on the messy side and a bit “meh” on top.  I think the hair could have been taken two notches higher in the classy department.  BUT THAT DRESS…oh my gosh that beautiful Chanel couture dress is the most gorgeous dress I spotted at this year’s Golden Globes.  It could have gone disco ball meets Knight’s Tale mesh but it hasn’t, it’s so much more elegant because of how Chanel has put it together. The fact alone that it reflects the red carpet and sparkles along her inner arms is magic.

4)  NAOMI WATTS

Without a doubt Australian actress Naomi Watts is aging gracefully and she always wears a classic red lip so well.  I thought she could have done with a bit more blush, but I have a feeling in person she probably has enough on.  All of the flash photography (which is a terrifying test for a makeup artist) and the bright red carpet lights might have washed her cheek hue out somewhat.  I wasn’t super keen on the super dewy base she had on, I might have preferred a satin, semi-matte finish base because in some photos she looked a bit shiny, but that’s just me, who am I right, lol.  I kinda liked her dress but I’m not fond of yellow.

5_ EMMA STONE

Emma Stone’s berry lip and that “Easy A” Lanvin jumpsuit was in my opinion one of the best game changers that evening, if not the most hassle-free one at least.  While everyone else avoids a JenLaw stunt with an overwhelming gown, she’s free to be…lol.  I like that she went for intense eyes and a berry lip, there were lots of neutral looks in the mix at the Golden Globes, it was refreshing that she came in unpredictable attire and striking makeup.

Those are my Top 5 in beauty basically.  There is one more dress I did like which was that of Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick who I am proud to say was wearing a Monique Lhuillier gown.  Here’s to Pinoy designer pride!

This was my favorite “big gown” of the evening, but I still like Dakota Johnson’s  flashy yet simple Chanel couture dress.  That for me was the most beautiful outfit of the night.  That one is glamorous this one by Monique Lhuillier oozes with romance.
