Bridge Road Brewers ‘Mayday Hills T’

Large foeder brewing with a unique Beechworth twist. Sure, the team at Bridge Road Brewing are looking abroad for creative inspiration but it’s their ability to incorporate local ingredients which truly intrigues. This, the second release under their Mayday Hills project champions green tea grown by the Alpine Tea Co. via a 100% Brettanomyces fermented pale ale. It’s tropical, earthy, floral and textural.
Beechworth, $7.50

Gänstaller Bräu Rauch Royal

A superbly smoked imperial IPA from Bavaria’s Northern reaches. Beechwood-smoked malt provides a firm backbone for the supporting notes of honey, bacon, citrus and spice. At 8.2% ABV, this is a serious beer and screams out for a big plate of pretzels and weißwurst.
Franconia, $13

The Bruery Autumn Maple

An homage to the spiced pumpkin ale style. However in place of pumpkins, The Bruery have utilised the humble yam as a base ingredient alongside cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, molasses, maple syrup and a traditional Belgian yeast strain. The result? It’s incredibly decadent and therefore best for sharing.
Orange County, $29

Garage Project Baltic Porter

The Baltic porter style originates from the area for which it’s named, it’s a hybrid of English porter and Russian imperial stout – fitting, as the Baltic States are roughly equidistant to the two countries. Here, Garage Project have incorporated a dash of smoked malt to provide aromatic lift against the beer’s initially concentrated character. Dark berry notes interplay with bitter cocoa and a creamy, mouth-filling texture. Super drinking.
Wellington, $25

Brouwerij Verhaeghe Vichtenaar

From the brewers:
“Vichtenaar” is a beer, brewed with roasted malts, spicey hops, fruity yeast and soft water, pumped up from a 172 m deep well, guaranteeing constant quality and pureness of the liquor. It’s taste can be described as mild-sourish and suitably complex, thanks to the long lagering on oak.
Belgium, $8.50

Oskar Blues Hotbox Coffee Porter

Comfort in a can, right here. While the coffee element is unashamedly rich, it’s the English and German malt-derived notes of caramel, molasses, and hazelnut cream which takes the limelight. Texturally, the beer follows suit with superb unctuousness and viscosity.
Colorado, $9.50
