Moonlight, Fences, Hidden Figures Land WGA 2017 Nominations

The Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) and the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in screenwriting during 2016. Winners will be honored at the 2017 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at concurrent ceremonies in New York City and Los Angeles.

According to Variety, the WGA’s nominated screenplays were selected by the 12,000 eligible members from 55 contenders in the adapted category and 60 in the original category. The guild excludes screenplays not produced under its jurisdiction or that of another guild so awards candidates “The Jungle Book” and “Lion” were not eligible for the adapted prize and “Florence Foster Jenkins” and “Zootopia” were excluded in the original category.
