Moonlight, Barry Jenkins, Viola Davis Among 2017 BAFTA Nominees

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ (BAFTA) movie awards after nominations were announced Tuesday at the organization’s headquarters in Central London. Damien Chazelle’s musical “La La Land” led the race with 11 nominations. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi drama “Arrival” and Tom Ford’s psychological thriller “Nocturnal Animals” both received nine, and Kenneth Lonergan’s family tragedy drama “Manchester by the Sea” had six.



Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight” received four, while Viola Davis was the lone nominee for Denzel Washington’s “Fences.” In the documentary category, Ava DuVernay was nominated for the film “13th” while cinematographer Bradford Young was among the nominations “Arrival” received.

Loving’s Ruth Negga will be competing for the EE Rising Star Award.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Stephen Fry, will take place Feb. 12 at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
