Why open a hotel, when you can open two in the same place? Indeed, Mexico’s perpetually cool Grupo Habita (with 15 total properties including Condesa df and Distrito Capital in Mexico City, Casa Fayette in Guadalajara, and Hotel Americano in New York) will be unveiling a dual hotel concept this autumn in Chicago’s hip Wicker Park hood.

The Robey, aesthetically realized by Belgian design duo Nicolas Schuybroek Architects and Marc Merckx, will have 69 rooms and be housed in the landmark 1929 Art Deco Northwest Tower building; it will marry Habita’s trademark Latin American arte de la vida with the boho aura of the surrounding area. To be sure, its position at the confluence of Damen and Milwaukee Avenues puts it right in the thick of Chicago’s legendary alternative music scene (Double Door and The Empty Bottle are just nearby).
But it will also flaunt a private second floor lounge, as well as a very Habita-like rooftop pool (a rarity in Chicago, for obvious reasons), the latter coming in spring of 2017. And the much buzzed about chef Bradley Stellings (of Food Network’s Chopped) will helm the hotel’s French-American restaurant Café Robey,
Just next door is The Hollander, styled by French design studios Ciguë and Delordinaire. It foregoes all the glam for a more “social stay” concept (i.e. stylish bunk beds, a bike rental and repair shop), with guests able to share their experiences via Instagram.
Reservations for both are being taken as of now; expect doors to officially open sometime in October.
