Hookworms – On Leaving

Leeds-based band Hookworms will be releasing their sophomore album The Hum on November 10th, so this is the perfect time to introduce yourself to the group if you’re not already acquainted. “On Leaving” will give you a good sense for their sound, with its distant vocals and reliably monotonous tone that breeds cinematic, nervous excitement rather than any sense of boredom. Check it out, above.

Nils Frahm – Hammers

German musician and composer Nils Frahm is most known for his eccentric attitude toward the piano, as well as his combinations of classical music with electronic. To get an idea of how the mastermind performs, watch his video for “Hammers,” which shows the construction of his set. Also, if you’re in New York, you can catch it live 11/21 at the St. Paul & Andrew Church.

London Grammar – Strong (Manila Killa Remix)

The discovery of an explosively popular band like London Grammar is exciting not only because of the introduction of a great new collection of music, but also because of what other artists will do with that music. Long after an album is released, producers around the world remain toying around with the instrumentation, vocals, time signature, etc. Check out Manila Killa’s remix of “Strong,” above.

Phantogram – Black Out Dates (Remix Ft. Danny Brown and Leo Justi)

Ever since I saw Danny Brown hopping around a stage in leather pants and sticking his tongue through his first front teeth, I decided he was one of my favorite people ever. You can only imagine the excitement of seeing his feature on Phantogram’s (another favorite) popular track “Black Out Dates.” The remix adds slick trip-hop percussion and synths to the original, not to mention the rapper’s rhymes, delivering an entirely different audio experience than the original.

KLO – Under Lie

Melbourne cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul used their project KLO as a way to bond after having had limited contact during their lives, even as relatives. The warmth of their backstory resonates within their rich soundscapes and beautifully weaved vocal layers. The duo’s debut EP Cusp will be released on November 14th.
