For the fourth straight month, the number of new communities being built around Sacramento expanded, according to new figures released Friday by the North State Building Industry Association.

But across the greater Sacramento region, 162 new homes were bought in July, down 24 from the previous month. Both a bump in interest rates and slightly less activity during the middle of summer could explain the reduced number of sales.
