Rep. Steve Cohen was reelected to a fourth term, easily defeating Republican challenger George Flinn. Memphis Daily News reports Cohen received about 75 percent of the votes to hold on to his District 9 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Two tax hikes also were defeated by local voters, according to the report. About 69 percent voted down a proposed sales tax hike in Shelby County while 62 percent voted against a one-cent gas tax in Memphis.
