Ohio may be regarded as a good place for business on some fronts, but when it comes to women-owned business, the state is lagging.

According to the third annual State of Women-Owned Businesses Report, sponsored by American Express OPEN, Ohio ranks 48th in the nation in growth of women-owned firms and 44th in revenue growth. By total number of woman-owned companies, however, Ohio ranks 9th, down from 6th in 1997.
