This summer’s heatwave and drought across two dozen counties in New York state have resulted in a natural disaster designation from the federal government.
The impacted counties include Erie and Niagara as well as seven more in the Finger Lakes — Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Wyoming, and Yates. Disaster declaration is based on reporting of crop loss to the federal Farm Service Agency and a D3 designation by the U.S. Drought Monitor, officials said.
