India, China to establish skill institute in Gujarat

‘Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’ would set up either in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar, according to a government release. GIFT city in Gujarat and Shenzhen in China were identified as pilot smart cities to initiate cooperation in the development of smart cities, stated the release.

Reverse quota: Karnataka reserves 50% seats for men in panchayats

in a Congress-ruled state an amendment was made to the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act on March 31 to ensure that 50% of the seats are effectively reserved for men.The women’s empowerment movement got a fillip in Karnataka in 1993 when 50% reservation for women in panchayat bodies came into effect. India ranked 100th on World Economic Forum’s human capital index

India has been placed at a lowly 100th position on the global Human Capital Index, which measures countries on development and deployment of human capital. Finland tops the 124-country list. India is ranked lower than all its BRICS peers and neighbours Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh. Countries are ranked on the basis of 46 indicators that track “how well countries are developing and deploying their human capital, focusing on education, skills and employment”.

Arun Shrivastava assumes charge as Syndicate Bank MD and CEO

Arun Shrivastava has assumed charge as managing director and chief executive officer of Syndicate Bank on May 15.
