NEC Corporation announces completion of its Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) Submarine Cable construction connecting Japan, South Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
Stretching to a mammoth total length of approximately 10,900 km, the new APG Submarine Cable is owned by a consortium of 13 members(1) and features 100 Gigabit per second (Gbps) optical transmission capabilities that is touted to deliver a capacity of more than 54Tbps.
On achieving the mammoth milestone, Shunichiro Tejima, Executive Vice President and Head of the Telecom Carrier Business Unit at NEC Corporation, said, “We hope to see our partnership with the consortium further enhanced through NEC’s ability to provide real-time technical support for the operation and maintenance of this advanced submarine cable.”
“NEC is honored to have been selected as the supplier for APG,” added Tejima.

Collaring 40 years of experience in the submarine cable business, NEC is known to have laid a total of more than 250,000 kilometers of submarine cable – the equivalent of six trips around the earth.
