St. Modwen, Birmingham City Council and Centro will jointly unveil details of £8m Local Growth Fund works and the next stage of development proposals for the £1billion Longbridge regeneration scheme, at a public consultation event to be held on 25th November.

Interested parties are invited to the first floor of Seven House on High Street, Longbridge (opposite Costa Coffee) to provide feedback on the proposed plans for the next stage of works at the West Midlands’ largest regeneration site. Plans include major transport and digital infrastructure packages; new residential and office development; as well as a new accommodation building for the medical teams working at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM) Birmingham.

On display will be further details on the M42 Connectivity package that includes improvements to Longbridge Lane, Tessall Lane and Longbridge Island for both pedestrians and drivers, to be brought forward by Birmingham City Council, Centro; the West Midlands’ public transport co-ordinator, and St. Modwen through the £8m Growth Fund scheme.

Councillor Tahir Ali, Cabinet Member for Development, Transport and the Economy, at Birmingham City Council added:“It is great to see both the public and private sectors working together to deliver Birmingham City Council’s vision for Longbridge, with the delivery of the next stage of redevelopment, through Birmingham’s biggest area regeneration project. This work continues to build on the ideas of local people to secure the economic future of this area, with new infrastructure, transport facilities, businesses and jobs.”

Public transport links are also set to benefit with £1million proposals for enhancements to Longbridge Rail Station alongside an expansion of the existing Park & Ride facilities, improvements to bus shelters, pedestrian and bus passenger information and a Cycle Link scheme.

Councillor John McNicholas, chairman of Centro, said: “This is the latest exciting chapter in the story of Longbridge and I am delighted that enhancement of the railway station and its facilities, expanded Park and Ride and the development of sustainable travel forms a key part of it.

“I look forward to Centro working in partnership with St. Modwen and Birmingham City Council and I would urge people to give us their views and help shape a scheme that will bring about real benefits for those who live and work in the area.”

Mike Murray, senior development surveyor at St. Modwen, said: “As well as presenting the proposed plans for 2015, we will be providing further information on the new M&S store and second phase of The Longbridge Town Centre which is already under construction, and will be ready for opening in 12 months’ time. But importantly we’ll also be asking for feedback on our new residential and office proposals, as well as inviting people’s views on improving the connectivity in the area in line with our recently won £8million Government Growth Fund.”

Interested parties are encouraged to attend 1st Floor, Seven House, 18 High Street, Longbridge, Birmingham B31 2UQ (opposite Costa Coffee) on 25th November from 4-8pm to view the plans and speak to those involved.
More than 3,500 jobs have been created at Longbridge, which to date has attracted international companies including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Philip Cornes, iON Cameras, Atos and Bytesnap. Other development milestones include the £66 million Bournville College, £23 million Cofton Centre industrial park, £70 million town centre and construction of 361 homes by St. Modwen Homes and through a joint venture with Persimmon.
