Atlanta, GA – August 28, 2015 – The Association of Energy Engineers® (AEE®), a nonprofit professional society of over 17,000 members, issued a survey to its members to determine the need for energy management jobs, energy industry potential, salary data, and relevant energy trends and opportunities. Labor shortage in the energy management industry has been a continued theme with a high number of market veterans –specifically engineers – retiring. Dwindling numbers within this skilled workforce and the implications of this on the growth of the clean energy sector are clearly represented in the survey results. 66% of respondents (based on over 2,500 polled) indicate there is a current shortage of energy management professionals today.

The survey found the average salary of energy management professionals is $98,975 with an average bonus of $8,300. The survey also found 34% plan to retire within the next ten years and 50% indicate their companies plan to hire energy professionals in the next 12 months.

A brief profile of the respondents: eighty-five percent (85%) have graduated from a four-year accredited college; forty-four percent (44%) have a post-graduate degree from an accredited college; sixty-three percent (63%) are Professional Engineers; and eighty percent (80%) are AEE certified.

The Association of Energy Engineers is helping to develop the growing need for qualified energy professionals through the following programs:

The AEE Foundation has awarded $765,000 in scholarships to candidates obtaining their undergraduate or graduate degrees in an accredited college or university focusing on energy engineering or energy management.

The AEE Council on Woman in Energy and Environmental Leadership (CWEEL) mentors woman who are entering the energy industry

AEE presents an exciting line-up of conferences and seminars for energy and facility professionals on key issues, developments, and the latest technologies in the energy industry

AEE is presenting the 38thWorld Energy Engineering Congress, September 30-October 2 which includes more than 250 conference papers on energy management and renewable energy topics
