G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development (GBPIHED) was established in 1988-89, during the birth centenary year of Bharat Ratna Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant, as an autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Govt. of India, which has been identified as a focal agency to advance scientific knowledge, to evolve integrated management strategies, demonstrate their efficacy for conservation of natural resources, and to ensure environmentally sound development in the entire Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).

Applications are invited for the following purely project-based positions. The candidate with adequate qualification may appear for Walk-In-Interview on 07 August, 2015 (10:30 a.m.) at Kosi-Katarmal (Almora) campus of the Institute. Title of the project : Environmental Information System (ENVIS) Centre on Himalayan Ecology of the Institute

Position : Programme Officer

No of Post : 1

Desired Profile : 1st class M.Sc. in Life Sciences

along with good computer knowledge and 3 years experience

Job requirement : Ph.D or working for Ph.D. and Knowledge of document preparation

Consolidated Pay : 30,000/- fixed p.m

Title of the project : Preventing extinction and improving conservation status of threatened plants through application of biotechnological tools

Position : JRF

No of Post : 1

Desired Profile : First class Master degree in Botany/Plant Physiology/ Biochemistry

Job requirement : Conduct intensive field survey on different remote areas of the Himalayan region; Isolation, quantification and characterization of plant biomolecules

Preferred : Preference will be given to candidates with experience in handling modern analytical Instruments (HPLC/GC/Spectrophotometer etc) and in ecological work in the Himalayan region

Consolidated Pay : Rs. 12,000/- fixed p.m. +HRA as per Institute norms; Rs. 16,000/- p.m. +HRA as per Institute norms for NET/GATE qualified

Title of the project : Forest Resource and Plant Biodiversity

Position : JRF

No of Post : 5

Desired Profile : First Class Masters degree in Botany/Forestry/ Environmental Sciences/ Biodiversity/Remote Sensing & GIS

Job requirement : Field Research, data base development, data analysis and report writing/presentation

Preferred : Physically fit to work in the Himalayan Mountains and experience of working in the region

Consolidated Pay : Rs. 12,000/ pm +HRA; Rs. 16,000/ pm + HRA for NET/GATE qualified

Title of the project : Kailash Sacred landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KSLCDI)

Position : Project Coordinator

No of Post : 1

Desired Profile : Masters degree in Life/

Environment / Social Sciences with consistently good academic record.

Job requirement : Over 10 years working experience in areas related to natural resource assessment/monitoring/management or resource mobilization, capacity development, other supports to overall project initiation, execution, implementation, development.

Preferred : Experience of Multi-institutional national/international project management (experience of overseas business management will be considered as an added advantage); Experience of working in remote Mountainous areas and with rural communities

Consolidated Pay : Rs 55,000/- per month fixed; In case of exceptionally deserving candidate further negotiable
