Assistant Professor of Exercise Science, Willamette University, Salem, OR, USA
Willamette University’s Department of Exercise Science invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. The Department of Exercise Science is seeking to add a colleague with expertise in clinical healthcare and/or anatomy to continue its successful growth as a strong academic unit within the University. The position will begin August 2014. The position calls for an individual with a commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment, ability to establish a research agenda involving the undergraduate majors in our field, and an interest in the interdisciplinary/collaborative potential of a Liberal Arts university. The position does not include clinical responsibilities.
The mission of the Department of Exercise Science is to provide students with a solid grounding in the factual and conceptual mastery of the interdisciplinary nature of the study of human movement. The curriculum is designed to promote critical thinking, effective writing, clear articulation and presentation, and to promote analytical skills that transcend the subject matter. Responsibilities
1. Teaching: Undergraduate courses in Human Anatomy; Prevention, Evaluation, Treatment and Rehabilitation of Injuries and Disabilities; and/or other science-based theory courses in the Department of Exercise Science. Potential to teach in the University’s General Education Program
2. Scholarly Activity: Seek internal and external funding for undergraduate and other research projects; write, present, and publish professionally
3. Service: Advise students; active involvement in professional associations, university and community programs
Qualifications (Minimum required)
1. Doctorate (ABD considered) in Exercise Science or related field, or clinical doctorate (e.g., DPT), with teaching and research experience
2. Expertise in Human Anatomy and/or Clinical Healthcare
3. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness
4. Evidence of scholarly and professional activity
5. Ability to develop a teaching/research laboratory with limited internal support and to advance a student research program
6. Demonstrated writing skills
Qualifications (Desirable)
1. Background to teach in additional area(s) related to Exercise Science
2. Experience working with undergraduate students, particularly in a Liberal Arts environment
3. Interest in developing interdisciplinary and/or collaborative teaching and research
4. Experience in authoring or co-authoring grants
5. Additional certifications/credentials relevant to the position and the mission of the Department (e.g., from NATABOC, ACSM, NSCA, NASM)
