Option Trading Partners – The antiX development team has announced that the first beta build of antiX 15, a lightweight Debian-based distribution, is ready for testing. This release uses SysVInit only (rather than systemd) for managing services (some of the previously released alpha builds offered a choice between the two init systems). From the release announcement: “antiX 15 beta1-V available for testing. This is a 32-bit antiX full using SysVInit (hence the V) and some repackaged debs for ‘nosystemd’, e.g CUPS, dBUS. The ISO image is 701 MB so testers will have to overburn the CD. Custom 3.19.1 Linux kernel; addition of alsa-sound-card to set up multiple sound cards; Debian ‘Jessie’ set as default; UEFI support on the live medium (no support yet in the installer); reorganised menu layout; reorganised boot menu; splash enabled at boot – to remove press F7 and choose the ‘No VGA’ option; improved localisation – but it still needs work; many minor bugs squashed. antiX is a fast, lightweight and easy-to-install Linux live CD distribution based on Debian’s “Testing” branch for x86 compatible systems. antiX offers users the “antiX Magic” in an environment suitable for old computers. The goal of antiX is to provide a light, but fully functional and flexible free operating system for both newcomers and experienced users of Linux. It should run on most computers, ranging from 64 MB old PII 266 systems with pre-configured 128 MB swap to the latest powerful boxes. 128 MB RAM is recommended minimum for antiX. The installer needs minimum 2.2 GB hard disk size. antiX can also be used as a fast-booting rescue CD.
