I’m really excited to announce the release of a new short Honey mystery – a special edition just for Halloween!

I just LOOOOOOVE the cover. Every time I get a new cover for the series, I think it’s going to be my favourite – but this time I really do think this one will remain my favourite!! I just love the contrast of orange pumpkin against the blue night sky and Honey’s silhouette is really clean & elegant (check out the original photo it was taken from below!)

NEW RELEASE!

Night of Flying Shadows

(Big Honey Dog Mysteries Halloween Special Edition)

Creepy caller. Trick or treat. Serious slobber

Join Honey the Great Dane sleuth and her canine friends on this spooky adventure! A creepy visitor arrives on Halloween night and the dogs soon find themselves on a dangerous mission through a haunted forest. And they also realise that they’re not alone – something is stalking them…

This short holiday novella is a great middle grade read or a book for parents and children to enjoy together, as well as a great choice for middle school teachers and librarians.

It’s currently available as an ebook  (but I’ll be releasing a paperback edition of the whole Holiday Mysteries Collection soon!)

Here are the handy links if you’d like to grab an ebook copy first:

Amazon.com | Amazon.co.uk | Amazon Australia
(also available on other Amazon sites)

It will be going on a special FREE PROMOTION for 3 Days Only from Oct 2 ~ Oct 4th so you can wait until then to download your copy, if you like, and get it for free!

Now, most of you know that the Great Dane silhouette on all the Big Honey Dog Mysteries covers are taken from real photos of Honey. I’d long ago decided that I’d like to have standing poses for all the full novels and sitting poses for all the shorter novellas. So when I started writing Night of Flying Shadows and designing the cover, of course, I had to look for a suitable sitting picture of Honey to use for the cover.

You’d think with the hundreds of pictures I’d taken of Honey, it would be relatively easy to find a good one – but actually, it wasn’t! Because the silhouette needs to be very sharp and clear, I needed to find one of her in profile with clearly defined “doggie head shape”. As you can see, there are a lot of great pictures of Honey sitting but when turned into silhouettes, a lot of them just looked like black blobs!

So after a lot of searching and comparing, here is the winner that was finally chosen:

As you can see, this was a lovely shot with a really strong silhouette shape already – and it translated perfectly into the cover!

This was taken the year we were in Sydney – during one of our walks through the waterfront suburb of Pyrmont. It was one of my favourite walks and we went there a lot, even though we had to drive there, sometimes through rush-hour traffic! You can see a glimpse of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background. I think Honey was actually sniffing something in the air when I snapped this shot.

I have to say, she was very good about posing for photos (well, the poor thing had a camera shoved in her face from her first day arriving home as a 7 & 1/2 week old puppy so she was well-socialised to it! ) – she always sat patiently until I had clicked away to my satisfaction and she even learnt to look in the direction that my finger was pointing, so that I could get her head from different angles. Of course, since photo moments were always followed by tasty treat rewards, she wasn’t complaining much!

And here’s one of my favourite shots of us together at Pyrmont:

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little “behind-the-scenes” peek into the making of the Halloween edition – and I hope you’ll enjoy reading this new Honey adventure!

(if you have a moment when you finish reading this – or any of my books – please consider leaving a review on Amazon! It’s the best way you can support me as an author. Thank you! )

p.s. For those who have been asking, yes, the next full Big Honey Dog Mysteries novel (Book #3) is coming!

I was originally hoping to have it out before Christmas, but I’ve been busy with a new project for my adult books (really excited about that and can’t wait to tell you all about it!) and so I’ve had to postpone the release date for Honey Book #3, as I don’t want to rush things. But all being well, I’m aiming to release the next full Honey novel in March next year (2015)

Of course, I’ll keep you posted on the blog here – and on my newsletter!
