The Stakes

The Providence Friars welcome the Illinois Fighting Illini to Dave Gavitt Court at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Wednesday night as part of the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games. The Friars enter this contest 1-0 after defeating Harvard on Saturday behind 32 points from Kris Dunn, who was named the Big East Player of the Week for his performance against the Crimson. Illinois had more of an up and down opening weekend as they fell to North Florida on Friday but rebounded to defeat North Dakota State on Sunday to round out the weekend at 1-1.

This will be game 4 of the 8 Gavitt Tipoff Games pitting the Big East against the Big Ten. It's unclear if there will be an actual trophy or item given to the winning conference each year but let's just assume there are bragging right and some RPI considerations at stake.
