Atlantic Lottery is warning of a scam where a caller claims to be from the corporation and advises you that you’ve won a large prize.

ALC says the caller cites a file number as proof of the win, but to collect the prize you're told you have to pay the taxes.

Jay Merritt, Manager of Risk Management and Investigations for Atlantic Lottery, says a legitimate lottery would never ask a winner to pay any money or provide banking details over the phone or through email.

If you think you’ve received a fraudulent call or email from someone claiming to be an Atlantic Lottery employee or a former Atlantic Lottery winner, contact police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s PhoneBusters line.
