August felt like a dreamy blur of lazy, hazy summer days that rushed past us before the blink of an eye. Even though we are sad to say goodbye to summer weather, we can’t help but dream of fall. The faint hint of chill in the air at night gently reminds us of all the lovely memories of autumn; cozy sweaters, glossy September issues, falling leaves, and pumpkin spice lattes (yum!) which is getting us pretty excited to welcome fall back into our lives.
One of the best things about fall is the fashion – leather jackets, printed scarves, dark plum lipstick, cozy layers, and ankle booties happily emerge from our closets. We always look to the runways for a surge of inspiration from all of the upcoming trends for the season. However, we admit looking to the runway for tips can be overwhelming and leave you wondering how exactly you would rock a sneaker wedge to the office or pull off the multi-coloured hooded fur coats seen sauntering down the runway (we’ll leave that to you Cara Delevingne). So, we narrowed down the top five trends we think will be wearable and flattering for everyone this fall.
1 // Wooly Knits
One of the biggest trends seen coming down the runways for fall is wooly knits. The fact that designers such as Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs have made emerging from the house in our comfy knits not only acceptable – but stylish gets us pretty excited. Comfy, cozy, and trendy? We’ll take it.
2 // Winter Pastels
Typically, fall welcomes back darker colours such as black and oxblood, where we reluctantly say goodbye to our dreamy pastels. This year we are seeing a trend deemed “winter pastels”. Think baby pinks, lilac, lavender, mint green, and powder blue (yes, please!). Who says cooler weather fashion can’t be pretty?
3 // Plaid On Plaid
This fall plaid gets a fashion-forward makeover. There’s nothing new about plaid in the fall, but this year the way designers mixed together patterns, colours, and checks is different and fresh.
4 // 60′s Inspired
The 60′s are back – seen through the silhouettes, prints, colours, and a-line dresses (which are mega flattering by the way) swinging down the runways. Think Edie Sedgwick in the flick Factory Girl with a modern edge.
5 // Western
We love the western-inspired vibe going into fall seen on all the runways. To avoid looking like you’re en-route to the rodeo focus on western-inspired details like a great black brimmed hat, silver western-inspired belt buckles, or fringed booties.
