LOS BANOS, Laguna — Rotary International (RI) District 3820 will confer on February 26, this year,a posthumous award on the late Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, District Governor Jose Estevez, Jr. announced yesterday.
The posthumous award will recognize Robredo’s “selfless and noble consecration of his life as a public servant of our country and people inspired and guided by the Rotary motto,Service Above Self,” Estevez said.
Robredo was a former member of the Rotary Club of Naga East based in Camarines Sur.
The award will highlight the district event, The Rotarian Jesse Robredo Memorial Lecture, initiated by the Rotary Club of West Bay.
The memorial lecture focuses “on national issues that affect the lives of the Filipino people and the major role Secretary Robredo played, RI District 3820 continues to play, in responding to such issues as public service and welfare, education and literacy, environment, health, youth welfare, peace and order, and human rights, among others,” Estevez said.
Dr. V. Bruce J. Tolentino, International Rice Research Institute deputy director general for communication and partnerships, will talk on “Partnership and good governance for development” from the perspective of an international non-government organization.
Naga City Councilor Gabriel Bordado will talk on the same subject from the local government governance standpoint, while the academe will be represented by Dr. Florangel Rosario-Braid, dean emeritus of the Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication, who will speak on “Mass media, social change and public governance.”
Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., chancellor of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), will also address the Jesse Robredo Memorial Lecture.
The event, co-sponsored by the UPLB College of Public Affairs and Development, will be held at the New College of Arts and Sciences auditorium from 8:00 AM to 12 noon.
