If you want to be known as the goto expert in your niche, it takes generating content… a lot of content. But it doesn’t have to be difficult if you’re strategic about it.
You just need to know how to get more mileage out of a single piece of content you’ve written or recorded.
With so many digital platforms available today, it’s easy to get your message out in multiple formats – like YouTube, Google Hangouts, iTunes, Stitcher Radio, Blogging, Kindle Books and More!
This has been termed “Multicasting” or Multicast Marketing by legendary marketer Mike Koenigs. And he has fantastic new book where he shares all about it.
Content marketers need to consider the future.
Consider just how much has changed in just the last 10 years with the revolution of smart phone technology, plus YouTube, Kindle books and podcasting platforms like Stitcher Radio.
People can now consume your content while on the go with just their iPhone, or Android device. I personally prefer audio podcasting because it’s the easiest for your audience to engage in while doing other activities like driving, or even that dreaded yard work.
New car models now offer a Stitcher radio interface for keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road while listening to podcasts.
Some people don’t want to podcast though.
Just a few weeks ago, a long time listener and friend of the show tweeted the following:
“@BIBPodcast big fan of the show, but quit listening when it became focused on podcasting”
I respect his opinion, but the reason I’ve been talking more about podcasting is because of the direction content marketing is headed with mobile technology.
Let me give you and example of how powerful podcasting can be in a niche market. My friend Eric Keith sent me this message yesterday in our local marketing Facebook Group:
“Hey Jonathan,
I started my podcast a couple weeks ago and shortly after my first episode I got an email from a prospect wanting some work done that I was talking about in the episode. And after about a week an half of dealing with a couple of the decision makers. I closed the deal of building a new website, Doing their SEO every month, and doing their social media. Point of the story… PODCASTING WORKS!!!”
Here is what’s so great about Eric’s story – He just started two weeks ago! Instead of starting just another internet marketing podcast, Eric took a laser targeted approach and launched an “online marketing show for plumbers”. By sharing his knowledge within the plumbing industry via podcast, he’s positioned himself already as an expert authority.
Creating an audio or video podcast in a targeted industry really does work!
If not podcasting, I encourage people to start a YouTube channel. Start with something simple, like short screencast videos. These require no camera equipment. Just a free program like screen-o-matic.com.
Just find a digital platform you’re comfortable with and start getting the content out regularly.
And while creating all of this content may sound exhausting, it’s really not if you learn to “re-purpose” it and deliver it in multiple ways.
David Dutton and I discuss the strategy of re-purposing on this episode of the show.
We’ll discuss:
The tools and services we recommend for repurposing your content into multiple formats
How to get your show episodes transcribed and the services we recommend using.
How David took a simple 1 hour webinar and repurposed it into Kindle book for one of his marketing clients.
How public domain content can be useful for re-purposing and how I planned to use it for an upcoming book
And much more
Some highly recommend tools & services we discuss on this episode
The Zoom H4n Recorder – I have created so much content from this recorder alone. You’ll want to get two Behringer XM-8500 microphones if you are recording with two people.
iPhone Video Hero – This is the best training program on how to use your iPhone to record professional looking video podcasts.
Rev.com or WeScribeit.com - Two great transcription services for turning your audio or video content into text.
